Mental Health Act Campaign

The Mental Health Act Campaign seeks to review the Lunacy Act of 1902 in order to draft a Mental Health Act that protects and promotes the human rights of those affected by mental disorders, in-line with the MoHS National Mental Health Policy and Strategic Plan.

The Campaign Committee, headed by Dr. Muana [atmuana@gmail.com] is currently working on the following initiatives:

-Reviewing Mental Health Legislation from other countries in the region: Liberia, Nigeria, Ghana

-MoHS to approach the WHO and make official request for technical support from WHO

The National Mental Health Policy and Strategic Plan is scheduled to be launched in September, 2012, providing a commitment from the government to revise the Lunacy Act.
