Mental Health Awareness Month 2025 – Official Launch!
Women’s Vocational Training Centre, Brookfields, Freetown
14th May 2025
Global Theme: “Turn Awareness into Action”
We proudly launched the Mental Health Awareness Month campaign with an inspiring and interactive session at the Women’s Vocational Training Centre, King Harman Road.
Our dedicated team—including the Field Coordinator, social workers, and peer mentors—engaged students on essential mental health topics such as understanding the difference between mental health and mental illness, recognizing early signs, referral pathways, and the power of community-based support.
One of the most moving outcomes is when several students volunteered to become Mental Health Ambassadors! These future champions will take mental health messages into their communities and advocate to those in authority for better services, dignity, and support. This is exactly what “Turning Awareness into Action” looks like.
👕 We also distributed Mental Health Awareness T-shirts to both students and teachers to amplify the message and build visibility for the campaign.
🎥 To cap the day, students shared what they had learned and recorded messages of hope to the wider public—offering encouragement to those living with mental health challenges and their caregivers. These heartfelt videos underscore the resilience and empathy within our youth and their commitment to breaking stigma.
This session is just the beginning. Throughout the month, MHC-SL will be leading:
🧠 Diversional Therapy sessions
📢 Community Awareness Campaigns
📻 Radio and 📺 TV engagements
We believe awareness is only meaningful when it leads to real change. With the energy and commitment shown by these young women, the future of mental health advocacy in Sierra Leone looks bright.
